Land is our major area of growth. Our engagement ranges from development of full electronic architectures to key differentiating features within maneuverability, vehicle communication and hybrid control systems. Our focus is on productivity, ergonomics and optimized use of vehicles and machines.
Sea is our heritage. CPAC was the first company ever to introduce full electronic integration in boats over 30 feet. The results have continuously made headlines in boating magazines around the world. The list is long and features include intuitive docking using joystick, full steer-by-wire including throttle and shift/gear, fully integrated driver interface and digital anchoring.
All key functionalities, such as rudder, throttle, slip and gear were now integrated in one system, with the possibility to dynamically add even more components over time.
New controls and driver interfaces were also implemented to simplify the user experience. Working with a system that will be subject to the harsh conditions of the sea required careful design and a systematic safety thinking to produce a fail-safe end product.
The results were astonishing. A completely new driving experience had been created. We call it “Easy Boating”. Practically anyone can now be the skipper of a 60-feet yacht. Having replaced conventional drive-by-cable solution with full drive-by-wire and connecting individual components allowed us to create truly differentiating products for the end customer, such as joystick docking and digital anchoring using GPS. For the boat builder, the self-configuring and sleek system has dramatically reduced installation time and our client is now able to provide a complete service offer.
After some brainstorming and prototyping together with the client and a partner we had the solution. An onboard telematics unit, connected to the electronic data network in the vehicle. This telematics unit is capable of picking up the status of all connected equipment in the machine.
The transmission of data to the operator’s back office was designed to support both mobile and satellite networks to ensure connectivity, even in the remotest of locations.
The testimonials from the end users have all been positive. The availability of updated data to the vehicles led to both significant improvements in optimization of usage and the ability to plan services in a way that minimizes both downtime and costs. For example, it’s now possible for the mechanics to bring the exact right parts when serving the vehicles. We were also able to add new differentiating features such as anti-theft alarms, rental control and rollover protection to further strengthen our client’s product.
We have also identified even more differentiating features such as an intelligent battery recharging strategy that always guarantees power to start the engine.
The initial findings reveal energy savings between 10 and 30 percent. The prototype has also led to a number of key differentiating features that will be evaluated for production shortly.
They were developing electronical steering for industrial applications and were not satisfied with the responses from the leading manufacturers. After evaluating if we believed we could compete this late in the process, we proposed what turned out to be a completely different alternative.
The continuation took an interesting turn. we won the RFP process in open competition and we were awarded the project. Together with our customer, we managed to develop the most sofisticate electronical steering system on the market that not only improved driver erconomics but also filtered out road disturbances and significantly improved both handling and reversing capabilities.
